This is Me
My name is Brittanie and this is my website. What you see before you is the digital equivalent of Harriet’s notebook, your mother’s junk drawer, the doodled bar napkin at the bottom of your backpack, the journal you kept in junior high. I have been keeping a website since 2004. I have been keeping this website since January 2005, though now a good chunk of the archives are private. Try not to take me too seriously. I do enough of that for the both of us.
On this blog I write frequently about my creative process or lack of it, my attempts to navigate the city that oil built on two wheels and my excessive consumption of books and movies. I also write elsewhere for a living.
Heroines, muses, role models and fashion icons include Brigid Berlin, Lauryn Hill, Katherine Hepburn, Dare Wright, Nan Goldin, Little Edie, Kim Gordon, Divine, Holly Golightly (not to be confused with Audrey Hepburn), Diane Arbus and an assortment of other beautiful, intelligent train wrecks in addition to some wonderful creative smart people I’m proud to call friends.
I am addicted to Herbal Answer Lip Balm and Coca Cola (though I’m working on the second one). I do not like to spell-check. I have a red belt in taekwondo. I love all dogs but am allergic to cats. However, I will still pet them if they are affectionate, and I usually regret it later. I am a natural blonde. I like to embellish and I have a (naturally) loud voice. I long for the relics of my youth. I try to write something every day.
Here is a picture of me, circa 1985, topless and suffering from chicken pox.
