…was was a colonial attempt to establish a new Germany within the borders of Texas.
Stumbled across this while doing research for a story. Interesting. I’ve always wondered about the prevalence of German names, towns and culture in the Texas Hill Country. New Braunfels and Fredericksburg were the first cities to be established.

Great link about the Adelsverein. I hadn’t read about the German settlement in Texas and was vaguely aware, knowing none of the details or names of persons leading the settlement. Thanks for the info.
New Braunfels – that makes me think of the movie Schultze Gets the Blues. I’ve loved zydeco music ever since I watched it. And I’d like to go check out that Shitterbon some day.
