Want to know how badass Houston was in the 1980s? Check out the film about about our roving gang of prankster roller skaters, the Urban Animals. Last night we went to Aurora Picture Show’s Scoot In event, where they were screening a series of short independent films about wheeled transportation. They showed Speed Street, and while the quality in these YouTube vids is shit, the movie is fucking awesome, with an excellent ’80s soundtrack to boot. We met up with our scooter friends and rode to the screening, at Sesquicentennial Park. It was nice to be back on the Vespa. Even after 3-4 months of her sitting idle in the garage, she started up right away. That was, after I remembered to turn on the ignition. The weather was perfect. Pretty soon it’ll be too hot to ride during the day. Below is another movie they screened, which I though was pretty badass.And they’ve talked on the phone a handful of times. Oguchi called after Sept. 11 to make sure Otto and her family were safe, and Otto reciprocated after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan a little more than a year ago.

Sigh. Anybody remember Groupie Central?
32 years ago at 7:22 a.m. Central Time I was born at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. Birthdays on a Wednesday suck. I mean, how to celebrate?
Same thing at my Shepherd Kroger. Passed it on the way home from Schlitterbahn (yeah, went to the water park in Galveston, the day before the “hurricane’ was to land there. Not believing the hype.) Entire parking lot packed. Gino had to get some items at Geriatric Kroger (18th and Yale) and people were crazy. Must….buy…..bread…..and….bottled water!! My entire preparations consisted of….hmm…looking in my refrigerator and seeing if I had any food that might spoil if by chance wind knocked down a power line somewhere. Nope. No food. I’ve been out of town too much to buy stuff I need!
Now if I go to the store, there will be nothing on the shelves, I predict. Grrr.
Q: Does everybody have nicknames for their Krogers? Or their grocery stores in general?
