Photos rescued from captivity

I did not go see Dave Eggers speak tonight, instead satisfying myself with a plate of home-made nachos and general slothiness in the aftermath of a long and eventful weekend.

I did manage to unearth the USB cable from a yet-to-be-unpacked pile of officewares, thus allowing me to free more than two months’ worth of pictures from my omnipresent digicam.

Witness:
Weinermobile

I find the Weinermobile to be utterly ridiculous, especially when it is parked in front of the yuppiest granolaist grocery store in all of Houston, salivated over by crowds of numbskulls posing like tourists as though they’ve never seen food-shaped transportation before. Unfortunately, I was one of those numbskulls. I simply couldn’t leave without getting a picture. I hate myself for succumbing to the eccentric and nostalgic charms of some corporate marketing guru’s brainchild, but I am not immune to everything, you know. Besides, I didn’t even get out of my car to take the shot.

Remember that colossal ice storm that raineth fury upon the Midwest and Plains? I was stranded in the last Oklahoma hotel with electricity at the time and all I got was some measly photos of dangerous-looking icicles. As a contrast, here is what winter apparently looks like in the dreams of a spoilt 19th Century German girl.

Speaking of ridiculous, Gus thinks it’s an abomination for canines to wear accessories or clothing. He’ll endure it for a few moments, however, if it means he’ll be allowed to go to PetSmart and mark the aisle where dried pigs’ ears are found.

Doggles

Since Christopher’s been gone I’ve spent nearly every weekend on two wheels (both motorized and pedal-powered), reacquainting myself with the city I missed so much. Here is the Wig Shop, and a story about the Wig Shop Murders.

Wig Mart

On the afternoon of the marathon, my running club ended their run downtown near the bayou, on a grassy area flanked by these two buildings.

Bayou Lofts

Further west along the bayou, you can see some cart art. And what appears to be a… lopsided cupcake? On stilts?

One of the things I missed most about Houston was the vibrant sunsets, since our home in Korea was directly east of a small mountain, and I don’t make it a regular practice to get up before sunrise. This photo doesn’t do justice to my first pink sunset, but that’s probably because I recklessly captured it while cruising 70 northbound on the Gulf Freeway. Oh well, summer is coming and bringing with it more technicolor evenings.

Yes, it reminds me of the kind of Southern Lady old-fashioned language my Texas grandmother still uses.

in high school my friends older and very hot brother drove the weinermobile around town for a summer. it didn’t fit in the driveway do he parked it on the street. i would have dinner at their house, when i looked up there would be a ginormous, bunned weiner just outside.
